Governor Andrew Cuomo called for the legalization of marijuana this week.
His proposal is expected to be announced on Wednesday. It would be his third attempt to get recreational marijuana use legalized in as many years.
There would be a new office created known as the Office of Cannabis Management, which would oversee recreational and medical uses.
Even though Democrats held a majority in past years, the measure still couldn’t get legislative approval. The state is facing serious budget deficits, which means legislators may be more interested in moving forward with this proposal.
