Body camera program launches in Ontario County

Sheriff Kevin Henderson made the announcement in a press release over the weekend. Effective with the arrival of 2021 – a body camera program for his office was underway.

Henderson says the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office will join countless others in the region and country utilizing body cameras for calls.

“This isn’t just for the major investigations,” Henderson told The Daily Messenger. “This is really designed for the day-to-day activities of the deputies.”

The body cameras are utilized through a contract with Axon Enterprise Inc., which provides 90 cameras at a total five-year cost of $981,271.

Henderson called the addition of body cameras another level of transparency for his deputies.
