State officials say New York will be stepping up its efforts to assist the federal government with rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine at nursing homes.
Both nursing home residents and staff were among the first eligible to receive the vaccination due to the high-risk nature of those individuals.
“We are going to supplement and expedite the federal program,” Cuomo said on Monday.
Altogether there are 611 nursing homes enrolled in the nursing home program. Governor Cuomo confirmed that the state is sitting at 47% completion, with just 288 facilities having gotten through the first dosage.
State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker says that 10% of nursing home residents and 15% of nursing home staff have refused the COVID-19 vaccine.
