President Donald Trump has signed the pandemic relief package, which was set to deliver $600 stimulus checks to most Americans.
The $900 billion pandemic relief package was signed in addition to a $1.4 trillion package to fund the government and avoid a shutdown.
While Democrats say more relief will come after President-elect Joe Biden is sworn into office – Republicans are signaling a ‘wait-and-see’ approach, according to the AP.
Congress had approved the $900 billion bill last week, and asked President Trump to sign it. He blindsided members of both parties, saying that $600 checks were a disgrace, and that they should be $1,200 or $2,000.
However, Republicans in Senate would not budge, citing concerns about the national debt. The relief bill includes protections for those hardest hit by the pandemic, in addition to stimulus checks.
Now that the relief bill has been signed, it’s expected that checks will begin rolling out to most Americans who make $75,000 or less in the next 7-10 days.
