Big changes are coming to the Canandaigua VA Medical Center. They are expected to be completed by 2022, but even as the Coronavirus Pandemic has unfolded, work has continued on the facility.
The pandemic did cause some delay in materials being delivered.
It’s a $300 million overhaul that will bring the 1930s-era facility up-to-date. However, while the medical services provided on-campus will surely improve — there will also be some improved housing facilities.
A dozen single-story cottages are being built, which will leave for additional residences to be added at a later date. It’s intended to replace the outdated, nursing home concept which has grown criticized in recent years.
