Katko, Reed, and Schumer all get first dose of COVID-19 vaccine

Elected representatives from the region in Congress have started getting the COVID-19 vaccine.

U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer, Rep. Tom Reed, and Rep. John Katko all received the first round of vaccine.

Each posted to Facebook over the weekend about the experience.

“Today, I received dose #1 of the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. This vaccine is safe, effective, and painless,” Reed wrote in the Facebook post. “Working together, we will continue to distribute these modern miracles and bring an end to COVID-19. While this pandemic has caused much pain, it has also reminded us that our nation is filled with great Americans — like our health care heroes and medical innovators — who help to keep the country safe and inspire us even in its darkest days.”

Rep. Katko followed suit. “In accordance with guidance issued by Congress’s Office of the Attending Physician, today I joined many of my colleagues in receiving my first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. The message from our nation’s public health officials is clear: Americans should have confidence in this vaccine and get inoculated as soon as they are able to. We are at a turning point in our fight against the pandemic, but must remain vigilant and continue heeding the advice of public health officials,” he said.

Sen. Schumer said that he got the shot at the advice of his doctor. “The vaccine is safe and effective, and I encourage everyone to take it as it becomes available.”
