Police seek public’s help after shooting in Tompkins: Dozen shell casings found at scene

The Ithaca Police Department reports that a little before 10 p.m. on Friday officers responded to a number of reports for shots fired near the Spencer Road traffic circle near Park Street.

“Upon arrival in the area, officers interviewed several residents in the 100 block of Park Street that reported hearing a number of gunshots in the immediate area,” police wrote in a press release. “None of the callers that heard the shots being fired were able to look outside in time enough to see where the shooting had occurred or provide any description of anyone who may have been involved.”

Officers say they did locate twelve 9mm shell casings. The shell casings appear to have come from a semi-automatic weapon of some kind. They were found in the roadway on the traffic circle.

Based on evidence located at the scene it’s believed that the subjects that were firing the weapon or weapons were likely in a vehicle. However, that detail has not been confirmed, police said.

No additional information was available. Police ask anyone with information about this incident to call 607-272-3245.
