One dead, another charged with manslaughter after Canandaigua fight

On December 19th at 10:26 p.m. the City of Canandaigua Police Department responded to 99 Phoenix Street for the report of a fight in progress at the location.

Upon arrival, officers found 50-year-old Anthony Gray of Canandaigua unconscious and unresponsive as a result of the fight.
Officers and First Responders resuscitated the victim at the scene and he was subsequently transported by ambulance to F.F. Thompson Hospital where he died a short time after arrival.

Pursuant to the investigation it was determined that during a dispute, the victim was physically assaulted by 30-year-old Christopher Diaz of Canandaigua, which resulted in the victim’s death.

Diaz was arrested at the scene and charged with first-degree manslaughter. He was subsequently transported to the Ontario County Jail for arraignment.

The Canandaigua Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Canandaigua Emergency Squad, the Canandaigua Fire Department, Ontario County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police.
