Syracuse struggles but manages to take down Northeastern, 62-56 (full coverage)

Syracuse had to grind out a 62-56 victory over Northeastern on Wednesday afternoon at the Carrier Dome.

Syracuse struggled offensively against the Huskies.

One game after hitting a school-record 16 3-pointers in a 38-point win over Boston College, Syracuse was just 2-for-18 on 3-pointers against Northeastern.

Syracuse’s top scorers for the season both suffered their worst games of the young season. Buddy Boeheim scored just two points on 1-for-13 field goal shooting. Alan Griffin failed to score, missing all four of his shots.

GAME PREVIEW:

Syracuse returns to the Carrier Dome for a rare Wednesday afternoon tilt against Northeastern on Wednesday. The game, which was a late addition to the schedule, tips off at 3 p.m.

Syracuse’s offense was firing on all cylinders in its 101-63 victory at Boston College last Saturday in the ACC opener for both schools. It was the largest margin of victory over a conference opponent since the Orange joined the ACC for the 2013-14 season.

The Huskies enter Wednesday’s game with a 1-1 record. Northeastern has played UMass twice, losing in Amherst, 94-79, on Dec. 11 before defeating the Minutemen, 78-75, on Sunday in Boston.

Syracuse and Northeastern will meet for the eighth time. The Orange have won all seven previous meetings. The last encounter took place on Dec. 4, 2018 in the Dome. Oshae Brissett recorded a double-double in a 72-49 ‘Cuse win.
