Police say a contractor was arrested for grand larceny following an investigation in Ontario County.
On December 4th at approximately 5:15 p.m. officers with the Canandaigua Police Department arrested 40-year-old Rodney T. Cooper of Latham for fourth-degree grand larceny.
Cooper was arrested after a traffic stop by the New York State Police in Albany due to an Indictment Warrant being issued out of Ontario County Court in November 2020.
It is alleged that on or around February 24th Cooper agreed to seal the driveway of an elderly individual who resides in the City of Canandaigua. A price was agreed upon and after the work was apparently completed Cooper claimed the victim owed him $8,000.
It is alleged that Cooper accepted payment in the amount of $1,500 but returned to the victim’s residence on or about March 1st and demanded more money. Cooper accepted an additional $1,000 and stated that he would return in a few days where the victim would need to provide him with another $4,000.
Police say Cooper did not return.
He was turned over by the New York State Police to City of Canandaigua Police Department, where he was processed and taken to the Ontario County Jail to await arraignment.
