Post offices see 40% increase in demand as holiday shipping ramps up

Demand at the U.S. Postal Service is spiking.

As expected, more people are shipping things than ever before, thanks to the Coronavirus Pandemic.

The U.S. Postal Service says that while they have prepared for a busier than normal year – it will be difficult to keep up with the pandemic in play.

“We prepared for just about everything,” Desai Abdul-Razzaaq, strategic communications specialist for USPS of Western NY and Central PA told News10NBC. “Lot of people are shipping from home and they’re shopping from home, so the volume — we’re seeing it already — the volume is already up. seeing probably a good 40% increase so far in packages.”

The work they do getting ready for the holiday season happens all year, though.

Here are a couple important deadlines to keep in mind if you’re shipping anything with the U.S. Postal Service:

– Overseas military shipment deadline is December 11th
– First Class Mail deadline is December 18th
– Prioirty Mail deadline is December 19th

The Postal Service also offers a wide range of services online. To avoid contact and hassle, the post office is encouraging people to do more of their shipping prep work online.
