Work is underway to protect homes and businesses in Sodus Point from flooding along Lake Ontario.
There was devastating flooding all along the southern shores of Lake Ontario in 2017 and 2019.
The project is part of the state’s Resiliency and Economic Development Initiative and is part of $7.58 million in state funding that was granted to Sodus Point for the project.
Storm sewers will be added and replaced, and a bolstered storm system to prevent debris and sediment will be added. The focus area is Wickham Boulevard and Greig Street.
A dune was also built at the Sodus Point Beach earlier this year to help with flood prevention.
