There is a second COVID-19 outbreak at the Cayuga Correctional Facility.
The medium security prison, which is located in Moravia, Cayuga County was first identified as an outbreak location in the DOCCS system in the early-fall.
Now there are a total of 15 active cases of COVID-19 again. Officials said that those who were incarcerated there started showing symptoms, and that’s when the positive tests were identified.
“Every facet of the state’s response to the COVID-19 outbreak has been guided by facts, scientific data and the guidance of public health experts at (the state Department of Health) and the (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), and the work of DOCCS to protect the safety of New York’s corrections staff and incarcerated population is no different,” DOCCS said in a statement. “The department continues to review further testing options with the guidance of the NYS DOH.”
