Lawmakers are introducing a bill to help bar and restaurant owners in New York State.
Democratic Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara and Republican State Senator Daphne Jordan introduced a bill on Monday called the Save Our New York State Restaurants Act.
It would create a one-week sales tax exemption for food and drink sold at restaurants and taverns. It would apply to all facets of sales at those establishments too.
It’s not entirely clear if the bill would go far enough to save restaurants and bars that have already been brought to the brink by the pandemic and mandated closures.
Governor Andrew Cuomo signed an executive order mandating that all bars and restaurants close by 10 p.m. daily. There’s no end in sight to that regulation, as cases continue to skyrocket across the state.
