There will be a new option on driver’s licenses in New York State.
The state will move to offer a nonbinary gender marker of ‘X’ on licenses. Historically there have only been two options.
The move by New York comes after a lawsuit brought by a transgender New York City resident.
Officials say that it could take upwards of a year for DMV computers to handle or process the change automatically.
The lawsuit remains in court.
