Syracuse women’s basketball rookie Kamilla Cardoso up for Lisa Leslie Award

Syracuse freshman Kamilla Cardoso is one of 20 student-athletes on the Lisa Leslie Award Watch List to start the season. The Lisa Leslie Award, presented by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) recognizes the nation’s top center each season.

Cardoso, the No. 5 recruit in country in the Class of 2020, is one of four ACC athletes on the list. She is joined by Jade Williams (Duke), Janelle Bailey (North Carolina), Elissa Cunane (NC State) and Elizabeth Kitley (Virginia Tech).

Cardoso is one of three freshmen on the preseason watch list that includes 2020 recipient Aliyah Boston (South Carolina).

Syracuse’s 6-foot-7 center is one of three Orange on preseason watch lists for national awards. Point guard Tiana Mangakahia is on the Nancy Lieberman Award Watch List and fellow senior Kiara Lewis is on the Ann Myers Drysdale Award Watch List for the top shooting guard.

The Orange begin the 2020-21 campaign ranked No. 23 in the Associated Press Top-25 Poll. Syracuse is picked to finish third in the ACC by the league’s 15 head coaches and Blue Ribbon Panel.
