Passing motorists help save animals from massive barn fire in Geneva (photo & video)

A large number of animals were able to escape a massive barn fire on Pre-Emption Road in Geneva on Wednesday.

Photos from the scene show how intense the flames grew, as a passerby helped the barn owner get a majority of the animals out.

It happened in the town of Geneva. By the time firefighters arrived the barn was fully-engulfed.

Concerned motorists helped remove most of the animals to safety. It is believed that one calf died, and one cow had still not been located as of Thursday.

The investigation is ongoing. The fire wasn’t suspicious, according to deputies.

Michael Gleason, a Penn Yan resident, was among the motorists that stopped to help the property owner to move animals to safety. He shared photos from the scene with Finger Lakes News Radio (pictured below).

Firefighters from the City of Geneva, Benton, Bellona, West Lake Road, Hall, Dresden, Border City, White Springs, North Road, Penn Yan, and Stanley all responded to the scene.
