- Syracuse and Buffalo have met 34 times previously.
- The Orange own a 28-6 advantage in the series that dates to the 1917-18 campaign.
- Syracuse had an 18-game win streak in the series snapped by the Bulls on Dec. 18, 2018, when Buffalo claimed a 71-59 victory.
Coach Jim Whitsell led the Bulls to a 20-12 record last year and became the second head coach in Buffalo history to win 20 games in his first campaign. Whitsell was a Buffalo assistant to Nate Oats prior to taking the helm. The Bulls lost their opener in the Mid-American Conference Tournament to Miami (Ohio), 85-79, and the season was subsequently cancelled because of CoVID-19. Buffalo features senior guard Jayvon Graves (17.1 ppg, 5.4 rpg.), a first-team All-Mid America Conference selection in 2019-20.
Syracuse was 18-14 and had won its first ACC Tournament game before the national pandemic ended the college basketball season. Syracuse returns four of five starters, including junior guard Buddy Boeheim (15.3 ppg.). Coach Jim Boeheim is in his 45th season in charge of the program at his alma mater.
