The end is near for the landfill in Auburn.
Public Works Director Mike Talbot told City Council last week that survey work for closure was starting at the end of the month.
A new transfer station at the same site could be completed and operational by early-December, according to Finger Lakes News Radio.
They spoke with City Clerk Chuck Mason who said the entire process will go smoothly.
“The city is still going to provide the curb side pickup, but rather than landfilling it in our own landfill – the garbage will be brought to another landfill at this point in time,” Mason said.
It’s not clear where the waste will be taken.
The landfill shutdown process will 8 to 10 months according to a press release service.
