There just aren’t many paths to victory for a beat-up team such as this Syracuse one.
It needs the kind of defensive performance it turned in Saturday against Boston College, largely avoiding the missed assignments that led to explosive scoring plays in past weeks.
It needs a little bit of fortune, such as BC’s stud Notre Dame-transfer quarterback misfiring on throws from short and deep distances.
It needs to win the special teams battle, knocking in field goals and uncorking a long return while BC misses a pair of kicks.
Even all that, apparently, is not enough to break through and give everyone the satisfaction of a winning feeling again.
Syracuse dropped to 1-7 on the year with a pedestrian, 16-13 loss to Boston College in a game SU hung around in deep into the fourth quarter but never led.

Final: BC 16, Syracuse 13
The Orange D was great today. JaCobian Morgan played well in his first start, all things considered. Penalties and general offensive inefficiency held SU back just enough.
Syracuse (1-7, 1-6 ACC) is off to its worst start since going 1-10 in 2005.

GAME PREVIEW:
A pair of northeast rivals will square off in the Loud House on Saturday when Boston College visits Syracuse. It’ll be the 54th meeting between the two programs, the fifth-most frequent overall opponent for ‘Cuse and second-most among ACC opponents, trailing just Pitt.
The Orange look to snap a four-game losing streak and move to 2-3 at home this season, a building they’ve been .500 or better in for each of the past-three seasons.
Saturday’s game will be televised on Regional Sports Networks (YES Network locally) at 2 p.m.

A reminder that Syracuse’s depth charts are typically reflective of the previous week rather than indicative of that week’s lineup. If Dino Babers decides to make a QB change, he won’t be announcing it in a depth chart. https://t.co/Q0ANQpczrQ
