Auburn Police Chief Shawn Butler confirmed to local media on Monday that 15 officers from his department are in quarantine after an officer tested positive for COVID-19 late last week.
Contract tracing found that several officers who worked the same shift as the officer who first tested positive would have to quarantine.
The quarantined officers were first tested by Cayuga County Health Department which resulted in one additional person testing positive. According to Chief Butler the two officers currently have minor, cold-like symptoms.
The 15 quarantined officer comprise about 25% of the department’s force but Chief Butler says the situation will not impact service to the community.
