Back seat passengers have to buckle up now in New York

Buckle up if you’re riding in any spot in a car.

It’s the law now.

The change requiring rear seat belts for all of those inside vehicles went into effect over the weekend.

November 1st was the launch date for the law, which was signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo in August.

Approximately 30% of highway deaths in New York are associated with people not wearing seat belts.

The first law requiring seat belts was passed in 1984. New York was the first state to mandate wearing them.
