UPDATE: Steuben woman charged with murder, police say she hid gun, claimed home invasion occurred

New York State Police have arrested a 57-year-old woman following a murder that occurred in the town of Pulteney.

Sherri Ballam, 57, is accused of killing her husband John.

The entire incident unfolded at a home on Gloades Corners Road. A deceased male had been found Thursday morning.

Sherri Ballam is accused of hiding the gun that was used in the murder and reported that a home invasion took place.

She was charged with second-degree murder, according to police.

The investigation remains open and active.

Original Report: Suspicious death under investigation in Pulteney

New York State Police are investigating a suspicious death in the town of Pulteney in Steuben County.

It happened Thursday Morning when troopers were called to Glodes Corners Road for the report of a deceased male.

Residents in the area have been interviewed, and investigators don’t believe the death was accidental.


At this point, troopers say they aren’t ruling anything out.

The road and immediate area was closed following the initial discovery of the dead body. The nearby Prattsburgh Central School was placed on lockout, but lifted shortly after authorities realized that there was no immediate risk to the public.
