Police say that on Thursday around 5 p.m. the Tompkins County 911 Center took multiple calls for shots fired in the area of the Tompkins County Department of Social Services building on West State Street.
Upon arrival officers spoke with several witnesses who advised that they observed a male firing a gun in the 300 block of West State Street, then flee the area in the vehicle.
It’s reported that just prior to the gunshot a vehicle pulled into a vacant parking lot across from DSS, and one male exited the vehicle. After that male exited the vehicle – he aimed westerly down West State Street and fired one round before reentering the vehicle and leaving the area.
No injuries were reported, according to police. Police investigated and spoke with immediate witnesses. They searched the area for additional witnesses or anything of evidentiary value.
Some surveillance footage was identified for review.
The subject vehicle was identified as a Dodge sedan with four doors, light blue in color. The vehicle was reportedly occupied by four males.
The suspect was described as a black male, late-teens to early-20s, wearing dark gray sweatpants, a light gray hooded sweatshirt, and carrying a backpack.
Anyone with information pertaining to the investigation is asked to call (607) 272-3245.
