As we get a few weeks into the NFL season, it was already set to be a rocky start with this year’s events, yet over the past few weeks the amount of injuries have been rife. So while the Colts may have got their first win of the season, and a three and out from the Chargers, the Chiefs were led down field with a 13 play drive and the Ravens are showing no signs of weakness just yet. And as for the San Francisco 49ers, they’ve seen a record amount of injuries, some of which likely won’t recover for the rest of the season. So how exactly will this season pan out? And what are the predictions for the star players of this season? Keep reading to find out…
The Dolphins get ready to fight back
Having been in last place, the Dolphins have just spent a fairly decent amount of money trying to rebuild their team and have their hopes set on Tua Tagovailoa as their near-future franchise quarterback to save the day. The current quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick, has been making slow progress for the team, as they’re currently at 0-2. After taking a one game step back, the question is, will they be able to turn the corner?
What’s going on with the Ravens?
Last year, the Ravens were the best in the NFL with a 14-2 mark, in which they were also the leading contenders in the Superbowl. However, in the NFL, it’s often much easier to attain success than it is to sustain it. Ravens Coach John Harbaugh has recently admitted to Clifton Brown that this year the Ravens have gone from hunter to hunted and the NFL odds suggest that the Ravens are indeed the team to beat!
The Green Bay Packers could miss the play offs
Last year, the Green Bay Packers were one of the three NFC teams to finish with a 13-3 record. However, this year we’ve seen a change in fate as experts predict the franchise will fail to repeat as division champions, as well as missing the playoffs all together.
One of the issues that the Green Bay Packers have had this season has been a salary cap, which have severely limited them from doing much in free agency this off season The Packers were third in turnover differential last year and ninth in scoring defense, but they were also 18th in total defense, 15th in sacks and 23rd against the run. This season they’re being described as an average defensive team that are surviving on turning the ball – something which definitely won’t enable them to sustain their efforts. However with Aaron Rodgers performing surprisingly well compared to other seasons, in combination with Aaron Jones, there might still be some hope left.
Why have their been so many injuries?
One thing we’ve definitely learnt from the start of this NFL season is that preseason games are incredibly important. The hardest hit team so far has been the 49’ers, in which their injury report already includes the likes of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, running back Raheem Mostert, defensive end Nick Bosa, George Kittle and Richard Sherman. Although San Francisco isn’t alone in these injuries – The Giants have also lost running back Saquon Barkley to a knee injury and Denver lost quarterback Drew Lock for several weeks with a shoulder injury.
Overall, whilst it has certainly been a rocky start to the season, every cloud has a silver lining and there are definitely some sleepers amongst the crowd. Whilst the Green Bay Packers could go either way, it’s clear that the Ravens have a decent amount of work to do and the Dolphins may have already given up. So get your NFL odds set and keep your eyes pealed for what’s to come.
