A 61-year-old Wayne County woman is accused of embezzling more than $200,000 from a local church after a lengthy investigation into its finances.
Katherine Catalano, 61, was arrested by New York State Police following the investigation. Altogether, the Living Word Assembly of God is said to have lost $221,000 in the scheme.
Catalano reportedly worked for the church and stole the money over a period of seven years. She had been terminated about a year ago for unrelated job issues.
Investigators say she faces a second-degree grand larceny charge. They note that the theft was executed over a series of seven years in small increments — making it more difficult to track.
Her next court appearance is scheduled for November 10th.
