The Buffalo Sabres have signed forward Cody Eakin to a two-year contract with an average annual value of $2.25 million, the team announced Saturday.
Eakin, 29, tallied 15 points (5+10) in 49 games last season for Vegas and Winnipeg. He led Golden Knights forwards with an average shorthanded ice time of 2:04 prior to being acquired by the Jets in February.
Eakin set career highs in goals (22) and points (41) in 78 games with Vegas in 2018-19.
The 6-foot-0, left-shot centerman has appeared in 586 regular-season games spanning nine NHL seasons with Washington, Dallas, Vegas, and Winnipeg, tallying 237 points (103+134). He has 19 points (8+11) in 50 career playoff games, including a run to the Stanley Cup Final with Vegas in 2017-18.
Eakin becomes the second forward added by the Sabres since free agency began Friday, joining Tobias Rieder. The Sabres also re-signed forward Zemgus Girgensons and added a pair of defensemen on one-year deals in Matt Irwin and Brandon Davidson.
Buffalo previously shored up its depth down the middle with the acquisition of Eric Staal in September.
