UPDATE: Police ID victim at center of death investigation in Canandaigua

The Canandaigua Police Department has provided an update on the death investigation that began Monday at Lakefront Park.

Chief of Police Matthew Nielsen says the victim has been identified as 34-year-old Andrew Cochran, a Canandaigua resident who previously lived in Amherst.

He says the cause of death is believed to be accidental, but that an autopsy is being conducted to confirm.

No other information was immediately available.



Unattended death investigation underway in Canandaigua after apparent drowning

On Monday around 4:23 p.m. the Canandaigua Police Department was called to Lakefront Park for the report of a person unresponsive int he water.

Upon arrival of first responders, which included Canandaigua EMS and Canandaigua Fire Department, a deceased victim was located in approximately 2 feet of water near the shoreline.


The unidentified victim is a white male, approximately 30 to 35 years old. Investigators will be working with the Ontario County Coroner’s Office to determine the victim’s identity and cause of death.

The investigation will be handled as an “unattended death” and there is no cause for concern to the public, according to the police department.

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office Scuba Division assisted at scene with the recovery of the victim.
