The Coronavirus Pandemic has had a big impact on colleges across the state.
However, even SUNY schools were adversely effected by the pandemic. Data recently published by the D&C shows that enrollment declined 6% for the fall semester.
Meanwhile, the decline over the last decade has been even greater. Enrollment is down some 16% at SUNY schools and nearly 30% at community colleges across the state operated under the SUNY banner.
Officials were somewhat optimistic about the numbers, though.
They said the decline of 6% was less than what they expected.
“Overall, our preliminary enrollment picture is quite a bit more favorable than we anticipated in March and even what we were predicting in the summer,” SUNY Provost Tod Laursen said this week.
