The first jury trials in New York State since the start of the Coronavirus Pandemic will occur in the Finger Lakes region.
A limited number of in-person jury trails will resume on a trial basis, to see how effective. The first of them will occurr in Schuyler and Suffolk counties on Wednesday.
Officials say the expectations are high for keeping those entering public courtrooms safe.
“All of this suggests of course that New Yorkers expect our courts to be up and functioning in person even at this difficult time and that they have confidence in our ability to properly safeguard public health and responsibly discharge our duties with safety as our number 1 priority,” New York State Chief Judge Janet DiFiore told Spectrum News.
The appellate division of the state Supreme Court will also start hearing in-person oral arguments this week.
