It’s been a revolving door for Yankees hitting the IL, as Gio Urshela and Jonathan Loaisiga are the latest victims.
Urshela will hit the 10-day list with a right elbow bone spur, which is the same issue that has been ailing him lately. He has been playing through it, though.
As for Loaisiga, the Yankees phrased it as “a medical condition that prevents him from playing and necessitates placement on the IL.” Manager Aaron Boone assured the media during his press conference on Friday that the condition is not coronavirus related.
Urshela had to sit out a couple of games last week while dealing with the bone spur. He would eventually return, as he tried not to have a stint on the IL. But it appears the issue won’t subside and he needs more time to work through it.
This news comes a night after Urshela went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two walks. He has worked through his small slump, bringing his average back up to .272/.358/.515 this season.
