The Clyde Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that involved a teenager on Thursday.
It happened when a bicycle operated by Ayden Atkinson, 13, was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Lock and West Dezeng Street.
Information about the driver was not released by police as of Friday afternoon. However, the Clyde-Savannah Central School District posted a note to its website, saying they were mourning the loss of a student.
“Our school community is grieving and we extend our heartfelt condolences and sympathy to our community, family and friends. As our district moves forward, we will continue to focus on the needs of our students and ensure all necessary supports are provided,” the statement read.
The District told the Finger Lakes Times that the top priority is supporting the needs of students and staff impacted by the passing of Atkinson.
The district’s TIG (Trauma, Illness and Grief) team, which includes people from area component districts, will be available for counseling Superintendent Mike Hayden said.
