Survey shows 46% of gym members considering cancellation ahead of reopening

A survey from ‘Run Repeat’ says that consumer confidence in gyms is low. Despite the fact that New York State has granted them permission to reopen.

A recent survey suggests that 46% of gym members will not be going back, and 23% have already cancelled memberships.

“I think a lot of people are excited, I think we’ll have a good number of our members back,” John Hutchings with Five Step Fitness in Fairport told RochesterFirst.com. “I think a lot of people are adopting a ‘wait and see’ of that (46) percent. I bet you within two weeks, more than half of those people will come back.”

Advocates of gym owners had been urging Governor Andrew Cuomo to give them the ability to reopen throughout most of the summer. However, official ‘open dates’ won’t start until this week.

Gym owners say they have the proper plans and protocols in place to ensure a safe workout environment.
