Nursing homes say they need more funding, or many in NY will go out of business

While state and regional leaders contend with systemic failures inside nursing homes and policies that some say led to increased deaths during the Coronavirus Pandemic, advocates say change is needed, otherwise facilities will shut down.

They are telling lawmakers and the state that if Medicaid funding isn’t provided by the federal government some facilities will shut down.

Governor Andrew Cuomo has suggested that the cut could reach 20% if a package is not reached in Congress.

Nursing home administrators say poor funding forced them to make staffing cuts before the pandemic started. Some even had to reduce capacity to contend with those budget shortfalls.
