The strike that put more than 170 workers on the picket line has ended in Auburn.
United Steelworkers Local 9832 approved a new contract, and are working again.
Union President Shawn Jakaub said after the strike ended that workers were back on the job Tuesday.
The strike was caused by two sticking points, retirement benefits for junior members, and elimination of free medical benefits for senior members.
A tentative deal was reached Friday night, and was approved ‘almost unanimously’, Jakaub said after. The deal was reached days before talks were planned to resume.
It had been 40 years since the last strike.
