Geneva Snow Cats sweep doubleheader

GAME 1
SNOW CATS (11-3) 3
DP ORANGE (7-8) 0

Starter Jack Leahy (RIT) and closer Rojo Prarie (William and Mary) combined for seven strikeouts without a walk between them to shut out DP Orange. Leahy fanned five batters and allowed nine hits over six innings of work. Prarie stepped in for the final inning, struck out two, allowed no hits, and earned the save.

James Cronin (St. Lawrence) went three-for-four at the plate, doubling and scored a run. David Bermudez (Rider) and Cam Vozel (Gannon) tallied the other two Snow Cats runs. Vozel also collected an RBI, as did Gil Merod (Ithaca) and Patrick Blackall (RIT). Two more Snow Cats joined James Cronin in finding extra bases- Matt Smith (Ithaca) slugged a triple and Branden Myers (St. Bonaventure) connected for a double.

DP Orange starter Will Taylor pitched a complete game, striking out six Snow Cats. Aiden Stewart and Nick Ianniello both doubled for DP Orange.

GAME 2
SNOW CATS (12-3) 3
DP ORANGE (7-9) 1

Patrick Blackall (RIT) plated James Cronin (St. Lawrence) and Cam Vozel (Gannon) with a fourth-inning double as the Snow Cats erased a one-run deficit on the way to their fifth straight win. Blackall extended his RBI streak to five game and has a team-high 13 RBI on the season. Cronin doubled, stole third, then came home on a Mark Trotta (William and Mary) hit in the sixth. Trotta’s .513 batting average leads the ICBL.

Ronald Loomis (Oswego) pitched all seven innings for the Snow Cats, holding DP Orange to three hits and fanning seven. The six-foot-four righty had four 1-2-3 innings and only found himself in trouble once in the third as Keeler Thomas’s double sent a man home and put a runner on third. A double play made by Branden Myers (St. Bonaventure) and Garrett Bell (Ithaca) on the next at-bat ended the inning. With the doubleheader sweep, the Snow Cats increased their lead in the ICBL West Division to 2.5 games over the Cardinals. Those teams play twice in the remaining nine games.

DP Orange’s lone scorer CJ Phelps reached an error, headed to second on Max Stuver’s single, then came home on a double from Thomas. DP Orange starter Nick Ianniello pitched five innings, striking out five. Wilson Brauer struck out one in one inning.
