The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a Lyons man after deputies responded to an arson in progress at 26 Montezuma Street.
Deputies arrested Jeffrey Campbell, 32, of Lyons for arson, reckless endangerment, and criminal mischief.
Deputies investigated an arson where Campbell was observed by witnesses pouring gasoline down a stairwell entrance to a residence that was occupied by several people. He ignited it and fled on foot.
Then when witnesses put it out, he returned – pouring more gasoline on the stairwell and relighting the fire. He once again fled on foot, according to deputies.
New York State Police and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office worked together to locate Campbell. He was transported to the Wayne County Jail and held pending arraignment.
