Another injury has struck the rotation, with implications for the Opening Day roster.
Marcus Stroman was placed on the injured list with a muscle tear in his left calf, the team announced on Wednesady. Stroman did not make his most recent turn through the rotation in an intrasquad game.
Stroman last pitched on Friday in an intrasquad game, allowing two runs in three innings after posting a picture on Twitter that morning with a bandage on his left calf. Rather than have Stroman take the mound five days later, the Mets tabbed Rick Porcello and Franklyn Kilome to start Wednesday’s intrasquad game at Citi Field. Several hours after that, however, Porcello did not take the mound as scheduled; Hunter Strickland started in his place. The Mets did not immediately give a reason.
A surprise acquisition at last year’s Trade Deadline, Stroman went 4-2 with a 3.77 ERA for the Mets in 11 starts down the stretch. Those numbers included a 3-0 mark with a 1.88 ERA over his final four starts.
