The Mets have placed infielder Jed Lowrie on the injured list with left knee discomfort on Monday, and he will not be available for Opening Day on Friday against the Braves.
Lowrie had been described as a “full go” earlier in Summer Camp, although he was still wearing a brace around his left knee and hadn’t ramped up to full sprinting speed yet. An offseason addition before the 2019 season, Lowrie appeared in nine games for the Mets last season.
"From a competition standpoint," Luis Rojas said of Lowrie's knee, "it's just not where we want it."
Lowrie will see a doctor this week, after which the Mets will determine next steps.
He has had eight plate appearances since signing a two-year, $20 million deal with the Mets.
