Malls are officially open for business in New York.
Eastview Mall in Victor, Fingerlakes Mall in Aurelius, and Destiny USA in Syracuse all reopened on Friday with a significant change in operational expectations.
Capacity is limited to 50% inside the facilities, and certain stores have not yet reopened.
Advocates say a big reason for this is that stores have had short-notice to get employees back to work.
Everyone who enters a mall will be required to wear a mask. Parking lots will be limited, or certain parts of them will be closed. Cleaning and sanitation will also be boosted.
Earlier in the week, Governor Andrew Cuomo said that if specialized filters were installed malls would be able to reopen.
Dr. Jana Shaw, of Upstate University Hospital, said patrons should distance themselves from others before removing their masks to eat at malls. She also noted that people should avoid elevators if possible.
