Deputies: Lyons driver had 22 prior convictions, 4 license suspensions discovered during traffic stop

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a Lyons man following a traffic stop on Grist Mill Drive on Monday.

Willie Span, 53, was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, aggravated unlicensed operation – both as felonies – as well as DWI, consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle, unlicensed operator, failure to submit to a pre-screen, improper signal, driving too slow, and a number of other violations.

During the traffic stop deputies determined that Span was intoxicated and had four suspensions and revocations on his license due to prior DWI related offenses. He was also found to be in possession of a billy club, and had 22 prior criminal convictions on his record.

Deputies placed Spann under arrest and transported him to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office for processing. He was held on no bail due to criminal record, deputies said.
