On Saturday around 6:15 p.m. deputies were called to a water rescue on Sodus Bay south of Oak Park Marina.
Dispatch received a report of a vessel taking on water and upon arrival deputies found a canoe in distress.
The operator was identified as Joyce Pentycofe, 63, of Lyons, who was wearing a life jacket and had been rescued by a Good Samaritan.
Deputies say another person called 911 while the rescue was happening.
She was transferred to the Sheriff’s Marine Patrol and transported to shore while her canoe and other items were recovered by a second marine unit.
Deputies were assisted by the U.S. Coast Guard and North Rose Fire Department Water Rescue Team.
