Five people killed in Southern Tier crash

Five people were killed in a two-vehicle crash in the Southern Tier on Sunday.

Police say five people were inside a vehicle that was traveling east on State Route 79 in Tioga County when it struck a westbound car head-on.


That collision occurred when the vehicle was trying to pass another.

Three people in the passing vehicle were killed, and two people in the oncoming vehicle also died.

The two survivors were airlifted to area hospitals.

The identities of those involved has not been released yet.
