Lyons man accused of assaulting family member, possessing handgun illegally

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a Lyons man following a domestic violence complaint during the evening hours on Sunday.

Michael Clingerman, 24, of Lyons was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree menacing, and criminal obstruction of breathing.

It’s alleged that Clingerman got into a physical altercation with a female relative at their residence. During that altercation he struck her on the side of the head with a handgun, causing a laceration.

He’s also accused of putting his hands around the victim’s neck in an attempt to prevent her breathing. Deputies say the victim was eventually able to get out of the home and call 911.

Upon investigation deputies confirmed Clingerman possessed an illegal handgun, which resulted in the weapon charge. He was arraigned and will appear in court at a later date.
