Change is coming to a law enforcement agency near you.
Governor Andrew Cuomo announced changes and sweeping legislation on Friday and Saturday.
Police agencies and local governments across the state are each being required to develop a plan that “reinvents and modernizes police strategies and programs” in communities across the state.
Topics such as use of force, crowd management and implicit bias are some of the many issues leaders will be required to evaluate. Community participation will be required, according to Governor Cuomo.
Plans will need to be enacted by April 1, 2021 or risk losing funding.
