The Corning Police Department reports that they were called to a home on Sly Avenue Extension around 9:45 a.m.
That report indicated that a person had been attacked with a hammer.
Investigators say the 41-year-old victim was asleep at the time of the assault. Kyle Horton, 20, was arrested on a variety of charges after the incident.
Horton is accused of breaking into the victim’s home, armed with a two-pound sledgehammer. He then struck the victim repeatedly in the head and face with it.
Police say Horton continued the assault before running from the scene. A nearby person called 911.
Investigators say Horton went to the home to “settle a beef.” That quote was gleaned from the investigation, in which police say Horton was cooperative.
Horton was charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree assault, and third-degree criminal possession of a weaon.
The charges could be upgraded, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
