Deputies say an apartment building suffered serious damage after a fire in Geneva, even though it was quickly put out.
On Wednesday, the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office says it responded to the Serenity Manor Apartments on State Route 5&20 in Geneva for the report of a structure fire.
The Geneva Police Department, White Springs Fire Department, West Lake Road Fire Department, Finger Lakes Ambulance, and Ontario County Fire Coordinator’s Office also responded.
Upon arrival, it was determined by deputies that the fire had been extinguished and no one was hurt. It appeared as though the fire started on a second floor apartment and moved to a first floor unit.
Ontario County Fire Coordinator determined it appeared that it started on a deck from a discarded cigarette. The fire had also likely been smoldering for some time before it caught the structure on fire.
There was extensive damage to the structure of the building, but it was ruled accidental.
