On Wednesday at approximately 10 a.m. deputies arrested three individuals following an investigation into a burglary at a Town of Ovid residence.
Initially, deputies responded to a motor vehicle accident on Tunison Rd in the Town of Covert where it was reported a vehicle was stuck in the ditch. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the three occupants had just committed a burglary at a local residence.
The crash occurred when they were fleeing the scene, deputies said.
The vehicle was also found to be containing a large amount of stolen property from the burglary. Quantities of methamphetamine, crack cocaine, and marihuana were also seized as a result of the investigation.
The following individuals were charged, according to Sheriff Tim Luce:
Anthony D. Huddleston, 26, of Cayuta was charged with second-degree burglary, criminal possession of stolen property, and two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance.
DeShana N. Briggs, 34, of Freewill was charged with second-degree burglary, and criminal possession of stolen property. Briggs was also charged with aggravated unlicensed operation.
Michelle L. Kohut, 39, of Ithaca was charged with second-degree burglary, criminal possession of stolen property, and unlawful possession of marijuana.
The burglary and stolen property charges were all felonies.
All three were arraigned. However, Briggs was the only individual remanded to the Seneca County Correctional Facility. They will answer the charges in Ovid Town Court at a later date.
