Wegmans, other grocers will limit meat purchases as supply chain issues persist

While headlines around the U.S. last week signaled potential shortages of certain meats at grocery stores – one of the biggest chains in New York says it will limit certain quantities.

Wegmans will limit purchases of 80% ground beef, and boneless skinless chicken to two family packs per order.

“Coronavirus is impacting meat supply across the country, but we do not expect to see a shortage of meat proteins available to our customers,” Wegmans said in a statement. “Although we may not have every product cut or variety available for the next few weeks, we are working hard to source all the products we can to ensure our customers have plenty of options in our meat department.”

Officials with the chain say they are confident that the supply chain will stabilize as time goes on. “Until then, we will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments to our sourcing strategy as necessary,” the statement concluded.

Other grocery stores implemented similar limits over the weekend.
