Being a first responder is stressful work.
As the number of active coronavirus cases dwindles in Cayuga County, the law enforcement community is looking to loosen some of its internal structures and policies set in place at the start of the pandemic.
“Now that we’ve kinda plateaued we’re going to start to scale back some of our restrictions in place,” Auburn Police Chief Shawn Butler told Finger Lakes News Radio. “Our people – they need a breather.”
To deal with job-related and life-related stress, Butler says Sgt. Christine Gilfus is going to be building out a program for officers.
“She’s going to really dive deep into creating an officer wellness program,” Butler continued. It’s something the department hasn’t had formally to date.
